زمانی که آخرین زنبورعسل ازدنیا رفت        when the last bee died                                    ,

هیچکس توجه نکرد. کسی لباس عزا نپوشید          nobody noticed. Nobody put on black      

و هیچکس برسرمزارش سوگواری نکرد. هیچکس برای زردآلوها  or made a dirge for the death

مرثیه ننوشت وهیچکس برای گیلاسها عزاداری نکرد           of honey.Nobody wrote an elegy

زمانی که آخرین زنبورعسل ازدنیا رفت when the last bee died                                          

همه مشغول بودند. همه گرفتاربودندeveryone was busy.they had things to do                   

هرروزصبح به سرکارمی رفتندوهرشب به خانه برمی گشتندdrove straight to work each morning

همه جاده ها جدا شلوغ بودند .  وانگهی                  straight back home each night. The roads

شربت خانه ها هنوزپربودند ازThe pantries were still packed                                                

شیشه های نکتارمیوه ای غلیظ                        with cans of fruit cocktail in heavy srup        

همه تگری تگری                                    deep deep freezers full                                       

پرازشربت انگوروآب پرتقال                  stores stocked with artificial flavoring

خشخاش ها چشمک می زنند. هیچکس اشک نریخت  the poppies winking out. Nobody cried   

برای برگ باباآدم . بومادران . زبان درقفای وحشی.for burdock . yarrow. Wild delphinium     

گاهگاهی کودکی ازقاصدک ها می پرسد    Now and again a child would ask for                   

زودساکت می شود: آن آفت !                       dandelions . quickly shushed: That pest!        

وهمه خوبند، کودکان تندرست                            And everyone is fine. The children healthy

لب قرمزی هستند، بازی می کننداومرابا              radish-cheeked. They play she love me/not

برگهای کلم پیچ، دوست ندارد، ازنقل                   with savoy cabbage leaves. Enjoy the telling
